Raja Kirik is part of an art project "Image of the Giant (War on Narrative)" by musician/electronic composer/sound designer Yennu Ariendra and composer/instrument builder J. Mo'ong Santosa Pribadi. This artistic research tracing the the violence history in Banyuwangi, East Java during the Dutch colonisation. The sounds, rhythms and narration are based on the traditional folk art Jaranan Buto, Gedruk Merapi, mythical figure Menak Jinggo of the ancient manuscript Serat Damar Wulan, and various traditional trance performance jathilan from many places in the archipelago.

"Its 6 compositions, made from homemade instruments and synthesis, demonstrates a poetry without words, of the violent narratives found in Jaranan Buto folklore. Metallic percussion and long drones are reminiscent of industrial music and dark ambient, however Raja Kirik create an atmosphere totally unique to Indonesia’s rich experimental scene."
